Stroll Through Chongqing Landmark Riverside Park

Nestled at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers, Chongqing Landmark Riverside Park offers breathtaking panoramic views of Chongqing’s Yuzhong, Jiangbei, and Nan’an Districts (another two spots to see the panoramic view are from Raffle City and E’Linig Park).

Directly across from the iconic Chaotianmen Dock, the park showcases landmarks like the futuristic Chongqing Science and Technology Museum and the elegant Chongqing Grand Theatre, both glowing spectacularly at night.

Designed by a leading Hong Kong architecture firm, this park is more than just greenery—it’s a vibrant hub for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. Wander along the riverside promenade, snap photos of the illuminated skyline, or indulge in Sichuan cuisine at upscale restaurants with unbeatable river views. The park’s open spaces are perfect for a leisurely evening walk or a lively weekend outing with family and friends.

Wander the Scenic Nanbin Road Promenade

Walking along Nanbin Road is the quintessential Chongqing experience, offering unparalleled views of the city’s dramatic skyline and the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers. This lively riverside boulevard is lined with architectural marvels, making it a photographer’s paradise and a perfect introduction to Chongqing’s “8D” (multidimensional) urban landscape.

Viewing

Early morning walks are quieter, while evenings buzz with street vendors and lights.

Wear comfortable shoes for the 3–5 km stretch, and bring a water bottle—Chongqing’s humidity can be intense.

Also, check for seasonal events like food festivals or light shows, especially during holidays like the Chinese New Year.

Cycling

Nanbin Road is a perfect cycling opportunity combined with great views. Avoid cycling at night due to limited visibility from other road users as well as crowds. Helmets are strongly recommended to ensure your safety.

Fishing

Fishing is possible. Be aware of safety near the water.

Pets

Pets and domestic animals must be on a leash at all times. You are responsible for their behaviour and must dispose of their excrement.

Discover the Charm of Clock Tower Square

A highlight of Nanbin Road, Clock Tower Square is a cultural landmark that blends European architectural elegance with Chongqing’s Ba-Yu heritage. Standing at 45.277 meters tall, the 6.1-meter foundation supports a striking tower with four 3.6-meter-diameter clocks that chime three times daily, creating a memorable spectacle.

This square is not just a visual treat but a cultural bridge, reflecting the city’s history as a trading port opened in 1891 and its enduring local identity.

Hike and Uncover History at Xiahaoli Old Street

Xiahaoli Old Street, tucked into the hillside near Nanbin Road, is a microcosm of Chongqing’s vibrant daily life and storied past. Built on steep slopes, this historic lane embodies the city’s “staircase culture,” offering a rewarding hike through winding paths, cultural treasures, and stunning river views. It’s a quieter, more authentic alternative to tourist-heavy spots like Hongya Cave.

Xiahaoli’s blend of traditional Ba-Yu wooden houses and Western-style buildings reflects Chongqing’s history as a trading hub. Once home to foreign embassies during the wartime capital era (1937–1945), sites like the former Italian, Belgian, and American Embassies have been transformed into charming restaurants and cafes.

Hiking

Wear sturdy shoes for the stairs and hilly terrain. A small backpack is handy for souvenirs.

Enter from Nanbin Road and hike upward for the best views, or start at Longmenhao Old Street (Shangxinjie Station, Exit 2) and descend to Xiahaoli. Elevators at Longmen Wharf ease the climb.

Tea

Pause at cafes like those in the former Belgian Embassy for a coffee with a view.

Shopping

There are lots of small shops.

Seek out the former French Yongxing Company or Wen Family Courtyard for a deeper dive into the area’s history.

Pets

Pets and domestic animals must be on a leash at all times. You are responsible for their behaviour and must dispose of their excrement.

Accessibility

Not recommended for people with mobility issues.
