The Mid-mountain Cliff (半山崖) hiking trail is a popular city viewing hiking trail visited by many tourists each year, loved by both visitors and locals.

The entire trail spans over 28 kilometers, starting in Shapingba District, and linking all the way to Yuzhong District at ELing Park.

You can visit the more popular Daping - Fotuguan Section where you will enjoy the beautiful city skylines of Jiangbei District along Jialing river, or a more complete experience and less crowded Pingdingshan to Hongyancun section.

This trail is not recommended for people with mobility issues. View accessibility friendly places.

Restroom

Very limited restrooms are available along the trail, mostly located near the Pingdingshan Cultural Park.

Pets and domestic animals must be on a leash at all times. You are responsible for their behaviour and must dispose of their excrement.

This tranquil section of the mid-mountain cliff hiking trail is less crowded, particularly from Monday to Friday. It offers a stunning view of Chongqing’s Jialing River.

Xinhai Revelutionary Army Transit Site sits along the mid-mountain cliff hiking trail.

In the autumn of 1911, Platoon Leader Xia Zhishi of the Qing Dynasty’s 17th Army Division led an anti-Qing uprising in Longquanyi.

On the second day of the tenth lunar month, the revolutionary army captured Ciqikou, then advanced through Pingdingshan, Futuguan, and Tongyuanmen, ultimately liberating Chongqing and establishing the Xinhai Revolution Shu Military Government.

Hongyancun Bridge

Spanning the Jialing River in Chongqing, the Hongyancun Bridge is a striking cable-stayed truss bridge.

Opened on October 28, 2022, this 725-meter-long bridge features a 375-meter main span, with high and low towers (202m and 150.7m) and a distinctive ochre color inspired by local red shale.

Its upper deck, a 31-meter-wide six-lane expressway, and lower deck, with dual tracks and single-car ramps, facilitate seamless road-rail transit.
