Hu Guang Guid Hall Highlights

The Hu Guang Guid Hall (湖广会馆) in Chongqing is an assembly hall established in 1759 in Qing Dynasty acted as a regional centre for business, entertainment, religious and social activities.

Today, the hall is a historical museum featuring courtyards, gardens, halls, meeting rooms and theaters. Visitors come here to witness the history of Chongqing, and to take pictures against the yellow walls in the guid hall.

Yu Wang Gong (禹王宫) is a place where people come to prey for a good havests for the upcoming year.

Guangdong Guid Hall

Built around 1662–1722, it served immigrants from Guangdong and features delicate carvings.

Qi An Guid Hall

Constructed in 1817, this hall reflects the architectural influences of Hunan and Hubei.

Jiangnan Hall

Designed for people from south of the Yangtze River, it blends regional styles.

Jiangxi Guid Hall

A smaller section for Jiangxi immigrants, adding to the cultural diversity.

The Yellow Exterior Walls

The buildings feature yellow exterior walls, black tiles, and exquisitely embossed doors and windows, blending Hui architecture with Chongqing’s local mountain-adapted style.

Migration Museum

The China’s first museum dedicated to narrate the story of “Huguang Filling Sichuan” movement, a significant migration wave during the Qing Dynasty to repopulate Sichuan after population declines.

Traditional Opera Performance

The complex includes stages hosting Sichuan Opera, famous for its “magical face-changing” technique, where actors swiftly change colorful masks in a dramatic performance.
Performances typically occur daily at 3:30 PM, offering a vibrant display of traditional Chinese culture. Check schedules in advance, as times may vary.
