Chongqing Drone Show Schedule 2026

Author: Kevin Deng Published March 9, 2026

Chongqing Drone Show Schedule

The drones generally take flight every Saturday night at 8:30 PM, painting the sky for about 15 to 20 minutes. During major public holidays, the schedule often ramps up to a nightly performance, making it even easier to catch.

Keep in mind that while the drones are high-tech, they aren’t fans of bad weather; shows may be canceled in the event of rain or high winds. Since the schedule can shift for special celebrations or weather updates, it’s always a good idea to check our website during the week of your visit for the most current information.

Where to watch the drone show?

The performance takes place directly above the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, a natural amphitheater that offers several fantastic vantage points.

While you can catch the action from Chaotianmen (the tip of the peninsula) or Jiangbeizui (near the Grand Theater), our absolute top recommendation is Nanbin Road.

Located directly across from the skyline, Nanbin Road provides the most balanced perspective, allowing you to see the drones perfectly framed against the backdrop of the iconic Raffles City.

Essential Tips for a Smooth Experience

To ensure your night is more “magic” and less “traffic jam,” keep these insider tips in mind before you head out:

  • Plan for Road Closures: Security is a priority, so expect traffic controls to go into effect 1 to 2 hours before the show. Many roads leading to the riverfront will be restricted, so give yourself plenty of lead time.
  • Arrive Early for the Best Views: If you have your heart set on a prime spot—like the popular terraces at Danzishi (Changjiahui) on Nanbin Road—you’ll need to move fast. Seasoned spectators often arrive 1 to 2 hours early to stake out their territory.
  • Master the Exit Strategy: Once the drones land, the area becomes incredibly crowded. Finding a taxi or a Didi (ride-share) will be nearly impossible. Your best bet is to walk about 25 minutes to Danzishi Metro Station. Once you’ve taken the train out of the immediate congestion zone, it will be much easier to hail a ride or continue your journey.

About Chongqing Drone Light Show

At the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, Chongqing hosts China’s first large-scale, permanent drone light show.

On a typical night, roughly 5,000 programmed drones swarm the sky, but for major festivals, that number can skyrocket to over 10,000, turning the night into a massive, glowing canvas.

The choreography is never static; themes refresh every month to honor holidays or welcome special guests — we’ve even seen custom displays for icons like Steph Curry and tech events like iSpeed. It adds a mesmerizing, high-tech layer to Chongqing’s already “magical” riverfront views, proving that in this city, the skyline isn’t just a backdrop — it’s a performance.
